Model Gurung homestay villages in Lamjung, with cultural shows and close views of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II.

Ghalegaun is named after the Ghale kings who once ruled Lamjung from here. It became one of Nepal's first organised community homestay villages, where families host guests, serve local food and perform Gurung songs and dances such as the ghatu.

Nearby Bhujung, one of the largest Gurung villages in Nepal, spreads over a hillside of terraces. Both have fine views of the Himalaya, and trails connect them in a day.

What to see and do

Stay with a Gurung family, watch the welcome ceremony and the evening cultural show with ghatu and sorathi dances, visit the Ghale palace ruins and the local museum, and walk to viewpoints for Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu. The walk to Bhujung and on to Pasgaun links several Gurung villages.

Good to know

Ghalegaun's homestays are coordinated by the community; book ahead in festival seasons. Jeeps from Besisahar reach the village; walking up from Khudi is an alternative.
