Salpa Pokhari
In Nepali: साल्पा पोखरी

Salpa Pokhari lies at about 3,400 m on the Salpa–Silichong ridge. For the Rai people it is linked to Salpa, a legendary ancestor, and thousands of pilgrims gather here at the Janai Purnima full moon in August.
The lake is on the old Salpa pass trail between the Arun valley and the Everest region, a quiet route through dense rhododendron and fir forest. There are few facilities, so go with a guide or local porters.
What to see and do
The lake is set among dark fir and rhododendron forest, with small shrines and prayer flags on its shore. During the August pilgrimage, Rai shamans (mangpa) and devotees gather, and there are songs and rituals through the night. From ridges nearby there are views of the Everest and Makalu ranges.
Good to know
Camping gear and a guide or porter team are needed; there are no reliable lodges near the lake. The trail can be muddy and leech-filled in the monsoon. The Salpa pass route continues west towards the Solukhumbu hills.
