Badimalika is a goddess worshipped on a high ridge of rolling pasture (patan) in Bajura, at around 4,200 m. At the August full moon thousands of pilgrims climb for several days through forest and meadows to her shrine, following processions of priests.
The ridge gives an immense view of the far-western Himalaya, including Saipal and Api, and the meadows are full of flowers and medicinal herbs in summer. Outside the pilgrimage, the trail is empty and a guide is essential.
What to see and do
Join or watch the pilgrimage processions, visit the shrine on the high meadow, and enjoy one of the widest mountain views in the far west. The meadows are rich in medicinal plants and flowers in summer.
Good to know
The trek involves camping and steep ascents; a local guide is essential. Weather can turn quickly; bring rain gear and warm clothes.
